Summary:

We are seeking a candidate who is thoughtful, versatile, dynamic, and sociable for an important process and manufacturing engineering role. The Manufacturing Technology Specialist, Electronics. The role will be an interdisciplinary cross between manufacturing engineering, process, product, and production knowledge.

We are looking for a ‘hands-on’ or working on the ‘floor’ candidate who has a solid manufacturing engineering education background, experience in an electronics process manufacturing environment, knowledge of key process engineering concepts within wave, selective wave, potting, automated robotics or assemblies, and other practices willingness or eager to learn and grow. Additional support will be provided to coach and train the successful candidate for the advancement of knowledge.

The successful candidate shall become very knowledgeable about the product and implement key processes to deliver a quality product. The candidate will also set key and monitor manufacturing KPIs and create visual management tools

The primary responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • A key member of day-to-day production operations responsible for production processes, setting up and developing or configuring, and optimizing industrial module(s) processes from inception through production and scaling up.
  • Develop best practices, and routines, set up efficiencies and performance to keep up with production rates (use innovative solutions to improve margins), and build reliable product quality of output through optimization by working along with cross-functional teams to:
    • Complete root cause analysis by using proven tools and methods to solve daily production problems (5why’s, Fishbone Diagrams, 8D).
    • Utilize value stream mapping to visualize current state sources of waste, and then create future state solutions based on lean principles.
    • Collaboratively support production, implement changes, and drive continuous improvement projects.
  • Responsible for equipment processes and production processes (including programming and supporting equipment: wave soldering, selective soldering, testers, robots, and potting machines).
  • Developing and maintaining all work instructions, and process flows (SOP) and training production staff
  • Work closely with Quality to implement and improve the Quality Management System and adhere closely to the Quality requirements.
  • Responsibilities include running NPI/Pilot projects or new builds and setting up start-up/kick-off or best practices for production builds (pre-production release and production release process).

Requirements / Qualifications:

Academic Training:

  • Manufacturing Engineering Technologist Diploma or Engineering Degree.
  • Designation in Electronics, Electrical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering Settings.

Work Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing/process design/development settings preferably in automotive, industrial, or in electronics manufacturing industry, with QMS experience is required.

Specific Competencies:

  • Strong team player with excellent problem-solving skills; resourceful and proactive.
  • Able to interpret technical mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Excellent English communication (reading and writing) skills, time management, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to diagnose and correct root causes of process-related failures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including comfort with delivering presentations and training.
  • Knowledge of Industry 4.0.
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics will be an asset.
  • Knowledge or training in Lean Manufacturing will be an asset.
  • Experience in Altium and AutoCAD will be an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
