Summary:

Reporting into the Vice President, Digital Operations, the Mechanical & Structural Engineer will be responsible for creating detailed designs and drawings for a wide range of mechanical and structural components and systems.

As a key player in MRI’s engineering team, you will collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to ensure designs meet functional and safety requirements while adhering to project timelines.

The successful incumbent will have strong engineering expertise both in the mechanical and structural areas, possess outstanding communication skills, and demonstrate ability to build collaborative relationships and provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility.

 

The primary responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and execute mechanical 3D designs, identifying design problems (constraints), proposing solutions/opportunities, and developing prototypes while testing and evaluating designs to ensure they meet specifications and have cost-efficiency in production.
  • Establish clear Engineering design patterns/methods into repeatable high-quality process.
  • Provide engineering solutions to design or manufacturing problems.
  • Design, scope, and develop new structural & mechanical engineering initiatives and projects and manage them through their life cycles. Manage the needed mechanical and structural design changes based on stakeholders’ feedback.
  • Design structural elements of each project using computer software like Solid Works, AutoCAD (DXF, files)

Execute the following:

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance for structural designs, supervise engineers and BIM/CAD technician and technical support, conduct analysis, and offer solutions for structural integrity.
  • Perform structural calculations using adequate software for structural analysis and modelling.
  • Participate in planning, cost development, project management, and scheduling for assigned projects, in addition to coordinating and communicating with technicians, and engineers.
  • Provide input for impact analysis (technical, cost, schedule).
  • Provide direct support to other departments in the engineering and operations areas.
  • Provide status for project and functional management.

Deliverable and timelines:

  • Ensure project delivery adheres to technical standards, schedules, and budgets.
  • Review projects for quality assurance, quality control, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.
  • Make recommendations for materials to use and safety measures to take.
  • Perform field visits and write reports detailing project viability and progress.
  • Preparing technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.

Other:

  • Foster innovation and continuous improvements while keeping abreast of the latest advancements in technology and assist with establishing programs to support training, process improvements, and the creation and maintenance of best practices and protocols.
  • Uphold safety regulations, identify and mitigate risks.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, codes, and standards.

Requirements / Qualifications:

 Academic Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field from a recognized university.
  • Extensive knowledge of Structural Design.
  • Efficient with 3D modeling in SolidWorks, AutoCAD.

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in structural & mechanical engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years of experience in Engineering Management, experience working in a manufacturing industry is strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience working regularly with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Work experience within the sign industry is considered an asset
  • Portfolios considered an asset.

  • Must be detail oriented and technically sound.
  • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
  • Ability to utilize computers with excellent knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Team player and able to collaborate effectively and positively with other engineering disciplines, production and/or regulatory organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent planning & organizational skills.
  • Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies, and control plans.
  • Training and knowledge of Six Sigma techniques, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing are desirable.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of the function and department processes.
