State of the Art digital sports scoreboard designed, built and installed by Media Resources for the Oshawa Generals OHL hockey team in the GM Centre in Oshawa Ontario.
Back in April 2016 the Oshawa Generals and the City of Oshawa announced that they will be releasing a Request for Quotations for a new state of the art sports scoreboard system for the GM Centre and the Oshawa Generals OHL team.
The announcement states:
“This is an exciting time for the Oshawa Generals organization and our fans. We have been working with the City of Oshawa over the last few months to come to an agreement to have a new video scoreclock in place for the 2016/2017 season. We have the best fans in Canadian Hockey League who have continued to support us through this journey; this gives us the opportunity to provide them with the best game day experience possible,” said Rocco Tullio, President and Governor, Oshawa General Hockey Club. “This puts us one step closer to being able to submit a bid, to be a host city for a Memorial Cup. It took an incredible partnership between the Oshawa Generals, City of Oshawa and General Motors Centre to make this a reality.”
Media Resources quickly got to work on our quotation and in July of 2016 we got the news that we had won the bid to build and install this incredible state of the art digital sports scoreboard using our VisioniQ Sports Scoreboard System.
This particular installation includes a 4-sided centre hung scoreboard features four 11’x16′ 5.2mm video screens, an upper illuminated advertising ring and four corner identification/sponsor ad units, a beautiful 5.2mm lower ring, 360 degree cameras, GOBO lighting, and a completely redesigned front end control room with state of the art software.
“The City of Oshawa, Oshawa Generals, and Spectra Venue Management selected Media Resources to design, manufacture, install, configure, and service a state of the art video scopeboard system for the General Motors Centre. We selected Media Resources based on their experience across a board range of projects, the obvious high quality of their product and attention to detail, competitive pricing, and their ability to offer a complete turnkey solution utilizing their in-house team of professionals.
Once they were selected, Media Resources was excellent to work with providing ideas, sound recommendations and solutions over and above our initial expectations. They completed the entire project on time and have been available every step of the way. Once installed, they helped to train us on the custom software, on the use of the video display system, and have been present at our initial games to ensure everything went smoothly. The 5.2mm 4-sided display with matching lower video ring is simply stunning; and the City, Team and fans love it! We could not be more pleased with the results”
– Vincent Vella, General Manager GM Centre
This amazing, high resolution sports scoreboard made its debut on Friday September 30th at the 2016 Oshawa Generals Home opener against the Peterborough Petes.

Designing, engineering, building and installing a digital LED billboard is no small task and at Media Resources we do it all from scratch from sizing and cutting the metal work to piecing the whole thing together, without the use of welding to all of the electical wiring and programming the LED components. If that wasn’t enough we also make sure the entire unit is sealed tight and waterproofed, that the LED components are perfectly lined up and the whole unit is put together and tested right in our warehouse. Then, we take it all apart and prep it for shipping, we load it safely onto a transport truck and we follow it to it’s new home and we install the whole thing.
What you, the consumer see’s when you drive by one of these huge LED billboards is all just the icing on the cake, below we will take you through the steps required to design, engineer, build and install a 14×48 foot long digital LED Billboard.
After the metalwork assembly is complete, a full inspection guarantees the frame is ready for population. The frame is then mounted to a moveable bracket system with castors that doubles as a shipping bracket. The population team then installs the LED modules, places power and control components, routes and connects cables/wiring, installs cabinet doors and hooks up the unit for test. Specialists then produce and install the networking and computing equipment into the door-mounted compartments.
Media Resources is the winner and runner up for Sign Media’s competition for the Out-of-Home Advertising category. The winning entry is a custom fabrication of Mike’s Hard Lemonade drink can that was installed in the summer of 2013 along Yonge Street in Toronto. The runner-up entry is a 3D billboard of the Olympic medal standings for the Sochi Games that was on display in Toronto and Vancouver.
