When our client, Astral – Bell Media, asked if we could help CHUM FM’s transit advertising program generate even more attention we were all in. The bright idea – neon augmentation.
We looked at the new faux neon products, but they didn’t have as much pop as the real thing. Plus traditional neon has a certain cachet. Working with Astral Outdoor (a Bell Media property) we installed the neon augmented transit ads at 3 locations around Toronto. The POP could almost be heard!!

Earlier this fall the Canadian Football League asked Media Resources if we’d like to run a play at the 106th Grey Cup festivities. As an integrated sign services provider we put our entire team at their disposal: digital LED scoreboards, sign service & installation, grand format printing and 3D fabrication.
For this game our 3D (VISION3D) and installation divisions were selected to play. Our part of the game plan included 3D props ranging from a 6’ long football, giant CFL logo’d helmet, size 186 shoe, goal post, essentially everything in the picture but the players!
The process started with CNC carving out of EPS foam (3D printing not used for this project). Next came hard coating for durability (so the players could sit on the football). Hand airbrushing and vinyl graphics got the pieces ready for kick off. Then we lateraled to our installation and service team in Edmonton to build the walls and mount all the pieces — a Media Resources team effort!
While Media Resources scored big at the Grey Cup the final victory went to the Calgary Stampeders winning 27 to 16 over the Ottawa Redblacks. Congratulations Stampeders!!

Creating an outstanding 3D-printed show-stopping display can do more than just advertise a product. Here at Media Resources our 3D Printing Department was commissioned to build a 13ft bullet structure to help facilitate the voice of a not-for-profit organization hoping to end gun violence in Canada. Despite their modest budget we were able to work out a plan that suited their voice and their wallets.
Our in-house custom 3D fabrication artists constructed a replica of the not-for-profit’s logo out of foam and airbrushed by hand. No details were overlooked – not even the scuff marks!
This project was kept heavily under wraps during production at the request of our client. Of course every employee at Media Resources was happily to oblige until the project went live at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto the morning of November 13th.

At this year’s Sign Expo Canada, Media Resources and partner Clear Channel Outdoor were awarded first place in the Out-of-Home category for the outstanding 3D work done for Fallsview Casino’s “FUN MAGNET” billboard. COO of Media Resources Keith Edwards accepted the award.
Over the years Fallsview Casino has entrusted many Out-of-Home creations to Media Resources. From a 40’ replica of a horse shoe to a 35’ roulette wheel to a full-size helicopter, Media Resources has achieved amazing and award-winning results again and again using 3D props.
As Media Resources 3D Fabrication department has grown (VISION3D), so has its capabilities! State-of-the-art 3D printers, automated 4-axis CNC routers and advanced 3D hotwire systems now work side-by-side with talented hand sculptors and painters enabling Media Resources to create life-like 10’ tall hamburgers, Spider-Man statues, giant 3D letters and more. Apparently, the only limit to their 3D abilities is the client’s imagination!
But Media Resources is more than 3D, in fact for the “FUN MAGNET” award they were also the installers. Sign installation and service is how the company started way back in 1967 and they’ve grown to become the largest sign service and installation company in all of Canada.

Back in June of 2017 when we announced our grand entry into the world of 3D Printing we couldn’t wait to get to work on this new 3D Printer and see what we could do with it.
Our 3D Technicians and artists started small by printing some generic but interesting items such as pop bottles and perfume bottles, then we moved onto 3D Printing a whale and a number of other things.
When the team was ready, they moved onto something that would challenge them and force them to take on everything that is involved in proper 3D printing, something that had to be built in pieces, hand sanded, bonded together and hand painted.
The team decided to create a lifesized 3D Spiderman
Once the 3D Printing Department decided on their design and downloaded the file it was time to get to work on the next phase, printing the 3D Spiderman.
The 3D Printed Spiderman was done in 8 different pieces
The total printing time for all 8 pieces was approximately 8 hours and it was printed then bonded together using Dimengel.
Once printed the pieces had to be individually hand sanded and treated, then the team put all 8 pieces together and proceeded to hand paint the whole thing.
Finally, they added the finishing touches and our lifesized 3D Printed Spiderman was completed!
When he and his team were looking for someone to build them a decorative 3D Structure for the entrance of the venue, it was Media Resources who was able to deliver on a very tight timeline.
The unique and original design was cut on our hot wire foam cutter at 6’ high, primed sanded and painted gold. The word “PICK” is suspended in the middle of the structure which is designed to look like a 6.
Drake’s team stated “The big Pick 6 logo went over very well, everyone was very happy with it and it was the focal piece of the room with everyone wanting to take photos with it.”
