Hard Rock Fire Mountain — The Definition of Spectacular LED Displays

Hard Rock Fire Mountain’s grand opening was earlier this month with the ribbon cutting done in front of their new digital displays. The displays by YESCO using Media Resources display technology truly deserves the term spectacular!

When we saw the artist’s rendering, we were blown away by the innovation. Fortunately for us, the fact that it was so innovative was key in the decision to go with Media Resources. After all, with over 50 years of custom signage experience throughout the Americas, who knows more?

The display consists of seven custom built undulating columns using our VISIONiQ 10mm SMD modules. The center column is 46′ 2.3″ high x 5′ 3″ wide (1408p x 160p) with six other columns of decreasing height.

To ensure operation is not compromised by system issues, it was built with VISIONiQ’s industry leading Redundancy Systems.

  • 2-way real time data flow for all modules
  • Redundant scanning cards
  • Redundant photocells with auto dimming sensor
  • Redundant controller

Since it would be viewed so closely, manufacturing precision had to be extremely tight. All the columns had to match perfectly from the steel supports to the cabinets to the module mounting.

Historic Merced Theatre Marquee Goes Digital

The installation of the Merced Theatre’s new totally digital marquee — in color and with full video — is complete. Never fear, though, its iconic Art Deco and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture remains untouched.

CK Signs chose Media Resources to manufacture the new digitals because of their extensive experience with high resolution digitals (10mm RGB used here). Their ability to manufacture displays that fit the marquee’s flat and curved sections was also key in the selection.

Another factor was Media Resources’ optional edge-to-edge LED cabinet (no perimeter frame around the image). This enabled CK Signs to mount the displays within the marquee’s original frames for a minimal transition from Art Deco to digital.

CBS KUTV Report — SITELINE™ Solution for Bright Billboards

Last year Woodbury Corporation, a real estate development firm in Utah, contracted with Compass Outdoor to erect, own and operate a digital billboard to promote Woodbury commercial properties.  Unfortunately, light intruding into the neighboring subdivision from the display was too bright for its residents.

According to CBS affiliate KUTV, the brightness of the display, particularly at night, was so bothersome to the neighborhood that some people started selling their homes to escape it. “It’s like I moved to Vegas” said homeowner Chris Booth.

Other neighbors tried to fight back by contacting their state senator, some even considering a lawsuit. Though, since everything had been done legally there seemed to be little recourse.

Woodbury Homes Find Technological Solution in Canada

While not legally required to do anything, as good corporate citizens Woodbury and Compass took their complaints to heart and began a search for a solution that would work for all parties. That search led to Canada and light shielding technology developed by Media Resources – SITELINE™.

SITELINE™ technology (patent pending) enables the intended viewers to see the digital billboard image without creating light pollution in adjacent areas, like residential spaces. As CBS reporter Jeremy Harris said on site, “It seems the lights have been turned off, at least from this angle.”

“Night and day difference, literally,” said Lara Huff, who lives near the sign. “I’m really impressed with Woodbury; they really showed a lot of integrity here.”

Even Senator Dan McRay was pleased, saying “They had no legal obligation to change the billboard, and they did it anyway. To go to that extent on behalf of the community, I’m hopeful that other developers will follow this example.”

Now, “Drivers can still see the electronic billboard’s advertisements, but the light is no longer shining on the Bradbury Meadows neighborhood” —Jeremy Harris, KUTV News.
